Bio

Roland Young is a Baltimore, MD born singer, songwriter and lyricist based in New York City.  He is known as a man of many hats.  Literally and figuratively.  With a background rooted in fashion and graphic design.  He is finally ready to place his musical mark on the world.

His sound is rooted in Soul with explorations into Pop, R&B and Singer-Songwriter genres.  His music is catchy, soul infused and pop-driven in form.  But his drive is to pack a powerful emotional punch both lyrically and thematically.  He is a lover of all music and isn't afraid to incorporate and be influenced by multiple genres in his writing.  Throughout his musical explorations what remains consistent is his love of the craft of songwriting.

Growing up, Roland's musical and writing aspirations were in full swing.  Singing in gospel choirs, playing saxophone and drums in bands.  His ears were always full with sounds of the greats filling the speakers of his father's Cadillac.  Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston were a few that were constantly in rotation.  Roland was known to always have a pen, paper and pad handy.  Whether he was illustrating life around him or penning his latest piece of poetry.  Roland was inseparable with his pen as his outlet to expression.

After graduating from Howard University and moving to New York City in 2003, Roland went back to his roots joining his church's various music ministries and partaking in singing background in a local band as he continued to explore his love of singing, songwriting and arranging.  Moving forward, he is invested in continuing to intertwine his musical influences and inspiration and continue to offer authentic, genuine, soul moving art.

Roland has recently completed and has set for release his first single "Willing To Fall" a dive into the depths of one's vulnerability in the quest to love.
